Route Pricing Guide · Updated June 2026

What private aviation actually costs on the routes people fly most

The headline hourly rate is not what you pay. These are all-in estimates for the 10 most popular US city pairs in 2026 — standard day pricing and peak-day pricing, across three cabin classes. No marketing. No lowball figures. Just the honest numbers.

All figures are estimates based on 2026 published rates, standard assumptions, and BizAv Insider's independent methodology. Actual costs vary by operator, program, aircraft availability, and booking terms. Peak-day figures assume a 25% surcharge — some programs charge more, some charge nothing. Always verify with your operator before booking. Full methodology below.

This is the route where peak-day surcharges hurt most. New Year's Eve, Thanksgiving Wednesday, and Memorial Day weekend see some of the highest demand in private aviation. Budget the peak-day figure if you fly this route on holidays. Programs with no peak surcharges (Nicholas Air, VistaJet) save $5,100–$9,100 on a single holiday trip.

The flagship domestic route and a good test of any program's transcon capability. Light jets technically make it with a fuel stop — but a midsize or super-midsize is the right aircraft. The 5.5-hour flight time makes cabin comfort a meaningful factor: you'll notice the difference between a Latitude and a Challenger 350.

Aspen's high-altitude airport (7,820ft elevation) limits which aircraft can operate there — particularly with full passenger loads in summer. Confirm your specific aircraft is approved for KASE operations before booking. December 23rd is consistently one of the highest-demand days in private aviation nationally.

The classic daily minimum trap. At 45 minutes actual flight time, you're paying for 1.0–1.5 hours on most programs regardless. On this route a light jet is almost always the right choice — a super-midsize costs nearly double for exactly the same 45-minute experience. Consider a turboprop or very light jet if your program offers one.

The most common corporate city pair in the Midwest market. Under 2 hours means a light jet is appropriate for most buyers — comfortable enough for a working flight without paying for a midsize cabin you won't fully use. Frequency is high so availability is generally good, even on peak days.

A strong route for the light jet category — the Phenom 300E can make Dallas to New York nonstop comfortably. At 3.25 hours, this is the upper end of what a light jet handles well for a full cabin. For 5+ passengers, step up to midsize.

The Bahamas route is where turboprops genuinely shine. Short distance, often small destination airports, and a price that makes the trip significantly more accessible. International handling fees and customs paperwork add modest cost regardless of aircraft. The PC-12 can access strips a jet cannot.

The most common route for tech executives in California. Under an hour actual flight time means daily minimums dominate the cost. A light jet is right for 1–4 passengers — there's very little practical reason to pay for a super-midsize on this trip. High frequency means good availability even at short notice.

Popular with energy sector executives and ski season travellers heading to Colorado resorts. At just over 2 hours, light jet is appropriate for most travellers. Note that Denver's altitude (5,280ft) means some performance considerations at high gross weights — full fuel and full passengers on hot summer days may require a performance calculation.

The snowbird route. New York to Palm Beach sees enormous demand spikes from January through March as UHNW families relocate seasonally. Aircraft availability tightens significantly in peak season — book early or expect to pay premium rates for short-notice requests. This is one of the routes where program guarantees of availability matter most.
How we calculated these figures

Hourly rates are based on 2026 published rates for the representative aircraft in each cabin class — Phenom 300E for light jet ($7,500/hr), Citation Latitude for midsize ($10,000/hr), Challenger 350 for super-midsize ($13,500/hr). Rates vary by program and contract — treat these as indicative mid-market figures.

Fuel surcharges are estimated at approximately $700–$800 per flight hour based on Jet-A at $6.56/gal nationally (May 2026) and typical fuel burn for each aircraft class. Fixed-rate programs like Sentient Jet's 12-month rate lock absorb fuel costs — these figures reflect programs that pass fuel through separately.

Federal Excise Tax of 7.5% is applied to all domestic segments. This is non-negotiable and applies to virtually all US domestic private aviation.

Peak-day surcharges are estimated at 25% above the standard day rate. Some programs charge more (up to 35%), some charge less, and some — notably Nicholas Air and VistaJet — charge nothing. The peak figures here represent the market average, not any specific program.

Daily minimums are applied where flight time is below 1.0 hour, at 1.0 hour minimum. Some programs use 1.5 or 2.0 hour minimums — check your contract.

These figures do not include repositioning fees (where applicable), cancellation costs, international handling fees (except where noted), or ramp fees at specific airports. Always request a full all-in quote from your operator for your specific trip before booking.
